Add another user type
There is the Members, Administrators, and Super Administrators ... but what if you need another member type, like Donators (people who donate to your site) or Teacher/Professor (if you run a school website), or coach, etc. you get the idea.

I'm gonna try to help you to get this accomplished ... make sure you make a back up of all your files before you get started on this!

Add before/after thumbs in the Photogallery
If you look at my photogallery you will see that it has previous and next picture thumbs beside the main photo to help the user glide along the album almost as if he were in a slideshow (my slideshow feature is seperate, as you can see from the Slideshow link on the top right on the photo albums!).

Here, I will show you how to get the same thing on your copy of PHP-Fusion. I will show you how its done on a fresh copy of photogallery.php (v6.01.4) as taken from the PHP-Fusion main site CVS browser. Yes, I am aware that PHP-fusion is at 6.01.11 (at the time I am writing this), but the photogallery hasn't changed since v6.01.04! :P

Creating a robots.txt file
Search engines specifically look for a robots.txt file before they start crawling your site. If you do not have one, the bots will crawl your site without notice. There are a number of reasons robots.txt files are used such as...

- When still building the site
- To prevent certain information from being accessible from search engines
- To stop search bots from using bandwidth
- To stop site from being indexed in particular search engines
- To stop bots or spiders whose main purpose is to collect email addresses

Embed Flash in Welcome Panel
So you want to embed a flash file in the welcome panel area, but Fusion by default doesn't allow that ... no matter how you try to embed it, it just won't work.  Well, here's your solution.

It seems difficult, but quite a simple mod ... trust me.

Google Sitemaps Explained - How To Use Google Sitemaps

Three Ways To Index Your Site With Google Sitemaps [Difficult, Hard, And Easy]

Google has recently implemented a program where any webmaster can create a Sitemap of their site and submit it for indexing by Google. It is a quick and easy way for you to keep your site constantly indexed and updated in Google.

The program is appropriately called Google Sitemaps.

In order for you to best use Sitemaps, you must have an XML generated file on your site that will transmit or send any updates, changes, and data to Google. XML (Extensible Markup Language)is everywhere these days, you have probably seen the orange XML logo on many web sites and its often associated with Blogging because Blogs use XML/RSS feeds to syndicate their content.

Today RSS is known mostly as 'Really Simple Syndication' but its original acronym stood for 'Rich Site Summary'. XML is only simple code like HTML and it is used to syndicate your content to all interested parties.

And the interested party in this case is Google. By creating Sitemaps, Google is really asking webmasters to take charge of the indexing and updating of their sites. Basically, doing the Googlebot's job!

If you have PHP Fusion installed, you can get generate a dynamic XML sitemap using the TWB SitemapXML infusion.

Limit Number of Characters in the Shoutbox Message Area!
Now it seems that everybody is out to limit the number of characters that you can enter in the shoutbox, this 'interest' seems to have come out of nowhere (or just got a flame lit under its ass) but everybody wants it!

Since there are many different shoutboxes, and they vary from functionality to coding, I'll show you how its done on a default shoutbox, and you can implement that on your shoutbox.

URL Optimisation
The default installation of PHP Fusion (v6.01.7) and many other Content Management Systems produce what are generally considered to be search engine unfriendly URLs. For example /articles.php?cat_id=1. This article demonstrates how this behaviour can be changed in PHP Fusion so that URLs take on a static format and are rewritten in the form: /article-title-r1.htm.

This article was initially written by Len Johnson from his website, The Webmaster's Bureau, and has been modified to include all the additions that I have added to allow it to be used for pretty much any links on this site. The credit for the thought and initial work is all to Len Johnson, I have just added to his work.

Validation Code Contact Me Form
We all know how annoying bots can be ... and the contact me form is currently not spam protected, so what happens is that bots have this free to use form to send the webmaster tons and tons of garbage and junk on how to boost our sex drive.

I for one am tired of this, and decided to add the validation code that is used when registering to this form to prevent further misuse of this form.
