Adnan's Webspace - Advanced News
My Vista Experience so far
Adnan's NewsThe gadgets have increased since the release as more and more people start to code their own, but the idea is the same, quick reference to various things so that you don't always have to open up the application to find the information you need.  There are gadgets to give you a quick overview of upcoming appointments and tasks (if you use Outlook), find the amount of hard disk left, cpu usage, RAM usage, how much of the download is complete in Azureus, prayer times and supplications from the Qu'ran and the Bible.

I didn't have trouble upgrading into Vista, the only software that was not compatible was WS FTP, which I decided to stop using in favour of Firefox's FTP add-on.  I even have Office 2007 running on all of my computers at home, and so far not a single problem with anything.  The new extensions (eg. .docx) isn't compatible with the other versions, but its so much simpler to just save in Word 2003 format (as compared to try to save into an older format from say Word 2003)!  The ribbon feature is amazingly simple, everything you need for a certain task is there.  Making a table, all the features that can be used with a table are right in front of you; same for link or inserts or just normal typing.  I find that even those that aren't as experienced in Office can learn a lot relatively quickly just by using it for everyday use, you notices things that you can do that you didn't know where possible!

There is one downside, I must admit.  Have you seen the commercial of the two guys, one's a Mac and one's a PC?  Well one of their commercials shows the PC after he's upgraded to Vista, there's a bodyguard behind him asking if to allow or cancel every action that is done by or towards the PC.  It is relatively extreme the way the commercial says it, but I would love it if these security pop-ups had a "Check here to always allow this program" button.  I'm sure there is, cause it says to check such-and-such place to control these pop-ups but I haven't had time to go check it out yet.  The check mark with the pop-up would be much simpler.  However, on the bright side I only get those like once when I boot up, for a certain program ... like 99% of the other stuff doesn't get flagged by Vista, which is good!

So in all, I enjoy the upgrade ... was almost no hassle to upgrade.  My other two computers will remain at XP for now, since the hardware on one of them is quite old (too old for Vista) and the second one, I'm still waiting a bit for an update on a software that my sister uses before I upgrade it!
